Getting back to my wits

Sunday, September 23, 2007

After two days of feeling slightly under-the-weather I am getting back to normal, but not before having a few extra nights of insomnia. Last night was made exceptionally bad when I caught a movie on LMN, "The Legend of Lucy Keyes" and couldn't walk away from it, even at 3 in the morning.

This is the second time, by chance, that I've caught a "legend"-based movie that proves to be very well written and starred. (The former being The Mothman Prophecies)

A young couple with their two daughters move to Princeton, Mass. The family, having come from a devastating, personal loss, are anxious to move and start over after the husband is hired to design/build windmills to generate clean energy for this small town, which he quickly finds is divided upon the construction due to a sad legend.

The sad legend concerns a family who lived at the same house the young couple of the present reside. In the 1700s the family lost a daughter, by what means thus comes the mystery, leaving behind a mother driven mad with the pain of having lost a child. Eventually, the mother ends up transpiring in those exact woods where her youngest was lost and thus a legend is born as the grieving mother haunts the landscape, forever in search of "Lucy".

Very well written and eery; made even better that it is based on a real legend. I think the only thing I find disgruntling about the movie was the "ghost" attack. I find that rather needless... things are much eerier in a flick when the "ghosties" are left to the imagination. Otherwise solid two thumbs up in moi's book, and that's a plus considering I am not an avid fan of LMN. Though over the summer it appears to have done a bit of expansion and growing. Another story, another day...

Well now I must check out this "Lucy" movie that you've raved about-hehehe.

I remember you raving about another "Lucy" movie long ago, but it was a romantic comedy. I caught that one & loved it as well!

Must be something about my new name that makes good movies-hahaha.

Thanks for the LMN movie rec!

Now there's some irony I didn't consider! LOL I LOVE "I'm with Lucy". I've got to get that on DVD.

Thank you for such a glowing review! I can't tell you how much it means to me and my little film when people like you go out of their way to say nice things in a public forum like this.

Best wishes,
John Stimpson, writer/director, The Legend of Lucy Keyes

While it's nice to keep the old stories alive, they should be handled with tact and consideration. As a descendant of the Keyes family, I was horrified at the child's grieving mother being represented as a banshee-type creature. Gratuitous Hollywood creepiness!

I blog recklessly, as all mothers of children under the age of eight should, and have finally given up on that, "supposed" great American novel. Instead I allow myself to be very much distracted by urban homesteading/gardening, politics, books, crafts, depression survival, weight loss (or lack there of) and graphic design. With time leftover for plenty of humor!
